Water is Life

Our Village The dry seasons in 9 Miles are getting longer. There is one community tank in the village where
the majority of people get their water. The only other rain water harvesting is at the school and
at a few private residences. The winter and springs of 2010 have been exceptionally dry. The
village tank ran out early in the season. Locals had to catch taxis to the closest village or spring
and take what they could carry home. The crops also suffered.
9 Mile

This project will provide Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems to the poor in the village by
providing Plastic Water Storage Tanks and gutters. The Water Tanks are made in Kingston by a
small manufacturer called Tank- A-Lot . They come with a 10-year warranty and are finished on
inside with a polymer which makes the tank stronger and safe for drinking. The name of the
donor or corporate logo will be painted on the completed tank and a photo of the tank with the
recipients using the water will be sent to the donor as proof of completion and as a way of saying
thank you.
