A nine mile tale

Our Village

Until 2005 healthcare was not available in 9 Mile. The nearest free clinic is located in St. Ann’s Bay. The vast majority of the villagers cannot afford the fare to get there. Since 2005, Tuff-Gong International has organized a Healthcare Clinic in 9 Mile at the Cedella Marley Booker Academy. The visiting medical staff and medicines are provided by Integrated Clinics International (www.icihealth.org). GSCF helps sponsor the costs of the clinics. Since 2009, the clinic occurs twice a year.

Current Projects

  • MISS DIMPLE:  A blind amputee, Miss Dimple suffers from type 1 diabetes.  She lives in a small leaky shack, with no power or water.  GSCF is planning to build her a house. Thank you to Holly Floyd of ROC Wheels (www.rocwheels.org) for getting a wheelchair to Miss Dimple.
  • Miss Dimple house, which is approx 70sf and provide very limited protection against the elements.  Inside is her cot and her few personal belongings.  She has no electric, water or sanitation. GSCF is currently building her a 16' x 16' house with a metal roof and an adjacent bathroom.  We plan to build her a kitchen as soon as the funds are
available.  There will be a deck and a landing for easy pick up at the front of the house.  Please help Miss Dimple with your contribution.

  • SIMEON:  Simeon was born a beautiful healthy child.  When he was 2, he developed Meningitis.  The result of recommended surgery was that he lost his sight.  He attended the Cedella Marley Booker Academy from the age of 3 to 5.  We are looking for sponsorship for Simeon so that we can bring him to the US and have his case reviewed.
